EXEMPTION TO THE MARYLAND 7 DAY WAITING PERIOD

State Police Handgun Application or waiting the mandatory waiting period, providing that the officer has obtained written authorization from his commander, allowing him/her to purchase a weapon as an "Official Duty Weapon". You will find below is the exact format of the Authorization Letter. This letter must be written as shown below without any additions, omissions, or any other alteration. INSTRUCTIONS
1. This letter when presented must be on Original Full Color Agency Letter Head, not a photocopy and must be presented within 30 days of the date on the letter.

2.This letter must be faxed to The Cop Shop at 410-837-0141 for approval prior to bringing it to purchase your weapon.

3.Call 410-837-5757 immediately after faxing it. You will be advised if the letter is acceptable as written.

4.In order to purchase your weapon and take it with you on the same day, bring the original letter with original signatures on it. Copies of this letter will not be accepted by The Cop Shop staff.

5.Bring your Maryland Driver's License and Agency Identification to complete your purchase.
